The Tent of Meeting

The Tent of Meeting or Tabernacle is a temporal structure that was built around 1450 BC during the time of the Biblical exodus by craftsmen named Bezalel son of Uri and Oholiab son of Ahisamak. According to Jewish history, the Tent of Meeting was built to house the Ark of the Covenant during its journey in the wilderness.

Meek the Meerkat – Desert Environment for Animation (Update 01)

Meek the Meerkat is a short animation, which has a meerkat as a main hero, who is searching for some food in dead dry desert. My role in this project was to develop a 3D desert environment based on concept art made for this project. The goal was to underline the dryness and hotness of the desert to support the story and character development.

Update 01 – Work in Progress test renders of models and textures:

Terrain:

The goal for terrain was to achieve acceptable resolution and look fro close up as well as establishing shots. Many workflows were tested for creating cracks that looked good from far away and close up.

Vegetation:

Few variations of dry bushes and grass were modeled and textured for scattering across the desert. Few dead old trees were modeled in ZBrush and baobabs in SpeedTree for a background foliage. The main part of the story is a big dead old hero tree, which the character uses to sneak around and to hide. The hero tree was modeled and textured in ZBrush as well.

Extra props for environment:

A dung ball made for a dung beetle character:
